Bicentenary Celebrations Committee

Celebrating our Methodist and United Church Roots and Faith in the Northeast Avalon

Garfield Fizzard, Chair

Leslie Dean, Associate Chair

This Committee, consisting of members of the United Churches in the Northeast Avalon, has been established to plan and implement events to celebrate the 200th Methodism in the Northeast Avalon.

Through the generosity of St. James United Church, we are using this site to distribute information related to our celebrations.

Bicentennial Joint Congregational Service. The Joint Congregational Service commemorating 200 years (1815-2015) in the life and work of the Methodist church and its successor, the United Church of Canada, on the Northeast Avalon will take place Sunday, April 26, at 3 p.m. at Gower Street United Church.

Our Moderator, the Right Rev. Gary Paterson, will be the guest speaker for this service. He will also be dedicating a bronze commemorative plaque which will later be erected near the downtown site of the first Methodist chapel.

A reception will follow the service. We are pleased to have permission for worshippers attending this service to use the large private parking lot on Long’s Hill. There are also many parking spaces along certain sidewalks near Gower Street United Church.
